What does membership at The Clay Mill include?

For £70 per month, you’ll get 10 hours of supported studio time spread over a four-week period. These sessions are guided by an experienced tutor, offering technical support - not formal teaching, but a helping hand when you need it.

Is membership flexible?

Yes. You’ll attend the same session each week to build consistency and community, but we know life happens, so you’re welcome to swap your session if needed.

How many people are in each session?

Membership sessions are kept small. This creates a calm, focused space with enough support to check in on queries and avoid common clay mishaps - like glazing disasters or structural wobbles.

Do I need to be chatty or social?

Not at all. Some members love the shared experience and peer learning, while others prefer to work quietly. Both are welcome. We foster a respectful, kind and inclusive environment, however you like to work.

Is there a minimum sign-up period?

No - there are no long tie-ins. Just give one month’s notice if you’d like to end your membership.

A Creative & Functional Pottery Space

We’ve created a well-equipped pottery studio that is both accessible and inspiring at The Clay Mill. The space is thoughtfully divided into clearly defined areas, including:

A kiln room
A glaze room
A wheel area

Clean & Safe Environment

Studio safety and cleanliness are essential. We maintain a dust-free, clutter-free space, and ask members to clean up after themselves to ensure a welcoming environment for all.

Professional Equipment

Our pottery wheels are 400W professional-grade, suitable for larger ceramic pieces. Every member is provided with a dedicated shelf space measuring 90cm x 40cm.

Flexible Session Access

Members can drop in outside their membership sessions to:

Collect or wrap work
Touch base with the team

Can’t make it in? No worries - we’ll care for and wrap your work between sessions.

Clay Options & Recycling

We provide three studio clays, all part of our clay recycling programme:

Potclays White Special Stoneware
Potclays White St Thomas
Potclays Flecked Stoneware

Other specialist clays can be purchased through our shop. However, members using these are asked to recycle their own clay.

Important: To protect our kilns, only clays supplied through The Clay Mill may be used.
