What will I learn on a wheel throwing course?
During the first few weeks of your wheel throwing pottery course at The Clay Mill, you'll be introduced to essential pottery skills, including:
- Preparing clay properly
- Centring the clay on the wheel
- Pulling up cylinders and bowls
- Bellying out to shape and alter forms
- Trimming and fettling your work
- Adding handles
- Glazing your finished pots
As your skills grow, you’ll move on to more complex forms such as closed shapes (like bud vases and lemon squeezers) and wide forms (like plates and spoon rests).
